ADHD COUNSELING
in Atlanta, GA

Are distractions, impulsivity, or overwhelming tasks holding you back? You don’t have to face ADHD alone.

At Steady Hope we work with adults and young adults diagnosed with ADHD who want to better understand their condition, gain practical tools for managing symptoms, and learn how to communicate their needs to others. We also support family members who are seeking effective ways to help and support their loved one.

Therapy can help you understand more about your brain’s wiring as well as give you tools to help channel your energy and focus in healthier ways. Therapy can help teach you how to work with your brain, not against it.

Common symptoms of ADHD

  • Difficulty focusing

  • Restlessness or fidgeting

  • Challenges in organization

  • Avoiding or being reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (e.g., homework, work tasks)

  • Emotional dysregulation

Medication and ADHD

Psychotherapy can be a powerful complement to ADHD medication, helping individuals with ADHD manage their symptoms more effectively and improve overall functioning. While ADHD medication often addresses some of the neurological aspects of the disorder (such as improving focus, attention, and impulse control), psychotherapy focuses on emotional regulation, behavioral strategies, and coping mechanisms that can enhance the benefits of medication.

Types of ADHD

ADHD is typically categorized into three types based on the symptoms that are most prominent:

  1. Inattentive Type: Characterized by difficulty focusing, staying organized, following through on tasks, and being forgetful. People with this type may seem daydreamy or easily distracted but may not exhibit hyperactivity.

  2. Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: Marked by excessive movement, impulsivity, difficulty staying still, talking excessively, and interrupting others. Individuals may struggle with impulse control and find it hard to wait their turn.

  3. Combined Type: Involves a mix of both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms. This is the most common form of ADHD, where individuals show significant signs of both attention difficulties and hyperactivity/impulsivity.

* Note: All of our providers are master's level clinicians. We can not prescribe medications or conduct offical ADHD assessments. We do maintain a list of resources that we would be happy to share.

Plus we have partnered with ADHD Online to offer discounted virtual assessment if clients are interested.

“In the midst of all the chaos swirling through your brain, all the disorganization and impulsiveness, the condition (ADHD) also seems to trigger a certain kind of creativity.”
